All About the Pigpen!

All About the Pigpen!

What is the pigpen?

The pigpen is the powderpigs lodge, and is the home base for our all of our programs! The little building to the left of the main pigpen is the little pigpen and was our original building when the ski school started at Hyak! The little pigpen was put on the back of a truck and brought over from Hyak when we built the main pigpen building.

What does building access look like?

One the bottom floor of the building are our public restrooms. These can be accessed via the back staircase (to the right as you look at the building), and are open whenever the building is open! During busy times, make sure to take your students winter layers off before entering the bathrooms as this helps speed up the process. We have hooks located on the back porch to hang coats and helmets.

The rest of the building is reserved for powderpig instructors and their families. We used to open the main floor to parents, but have found that we need a larger space to have our instructors have a restful break between the morning and afternoon sessions.

If you need to reach one of our admin team, you can find someone with a radio, or there is a doorbell at the bottom of the stairs.

What are the pigpen Hours?

We try and get the bathrooms open about 1.5 hrs before lessons begin, and we close the building about 15m after lessons end. During the week or outside of those hours the building is closed.

If you are up free skiing, please be considerate of families that are in lessons and give them priority access to restrooms, and space outside of the pigpen.

What's the Scoop on the Restrooms?

On our main floor, we have a 6 gender neutral restrooms accessed via the back stairs (on the right side of the building, see the image below). We also have a smaller gender neutral staff restroom past our public restrooms with two stalls. During busy times, we may open the staff restrooms to keep the line to a minimum. Please wait for a staff member to direct you to the staff restrooms.

There are also restrooms at the silverfir lodge and all other base area lodges, which are a great option for older students or parents/guardians!

We have a couple of tips and tricks for our restrooms:
  1. in the 10m before lessons start and the last 10m of lunch, we ask that only YOUTH students use the restrooms. If you are a parent/guardian or an adult student, please wait until lessons begin.
  2. Before you or your student heads into the building, make sure you take off your gloves and outer layers so that you are ready for the restroom. We have hooks and baskets placed on the outside of the restrooms to speed this up. This keeps our lines to a minimum.
  3. Please help us keep the bathrooms clean! If you made a mess, help us by cleaning it back up! See another mess and need some help? Just let us know!
Keep in mind that our bathrooms are gender neutral. Powderpigs is a safe learning environment and we ask everyone to be kind and respectful to each other regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, sexual identity, education, national origin, or any other distinguishing characteristic or trait.
